She's Running

My dad joined us today in the garage, he pulled off the air filters. taught me there are three things to getting an engine to run.  I think he is just as excited for my bike as I am!

1.Gas/ burn
2. Air
3. Spark

I have also heard the SUCK, SQUEEZE, BURN, and BLOW theory.

Using my tool (the spark plug wrench) I was taught the gentle techniques of installing spark plugs. Then my brother gave the bike a few kicks and she started up!! GLORY!!!!!!

Then we pulled apart the handle bars to throw on the straighter bars, AKA Street fighter bars. I love them!!!!! Thanks to my lovely technique of using WD-40 to removed the grips from the original bar is was really easy.

Working out the kinks

Fact: The bike ran when he parked it to years ago.
Fact: It does not run yet......

1. Quirk - Sometimes you have to take the points cover off to get her started?!!!

2. New battery - the old one was DEAD!  (yup, that is ducktape, one of the clips broke... dang it!)

3. Adjusting the kick

3. Parts were removed by previous owner! Going to check the spark plugs, they may need to be replaced? ... yup.

Note: I learned today how to use one of these dang crazy spark plug ratchets! It's my first official MC tool!!!

WHITE ROCK (NEWS1130) - Just because you're a 72-year old grandmother of 13 doesn't mean you can't rip up the road in an all-male biker club.

(This is NOT Joni, just an image I goggled)

Craigslist | 1975 Honda CB550 - $1500

Date: 2011-01-14, 10:08AM PST

For sale is a 1975 Honda CB550. The bike has approximately 22K miles on it. I say approximately because I replaced the gauges with another set. I still have the original set of gauges if interested.

The bike currently runs well when warmed up. If it's been sitting in the cold for a couple weeks, it needs quite a few kicks to fire up and about 5 minutes warm up. I normally keep the battery on a 'trickle charger' which helps the process. The electric starter works when it's warm and the battery is fully charged.

I have owned the bike for about 5 years and enjoyed cleaning it up. The inside of the tank has been cleaned and is rust free, the frame has been touched up with paint, I repainted the tank and side fenders (please note the bike is missing one side fender (stolen)). You can pick up a side fender on ebay for $20 and I have leftover paint and clear coat to match.

The carbs were rebuilt about 3 years ago with new pod air filters. I have replaced the shocks with low profile shocks which gives the bike a nice look. Cafe bars are on the bike. The rear brake drum works well and I have rebuilt the front brake with new cables. I also installed a new clutch cable. Tires are in good shape. The headlight is 5 years old.

Basically, the bike needs a few more things done to it but that's what an old CB550 is for. It's not perfect, but will definitely get noticed on the street. I also have some additional parts and a manual (including a nice cafe license plate holder valued at $100).

Craigslist | 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 $750

Date: 2011-01-11, 4:31PM PST
1980 Kawasaki KZ750 - new exhaust, air filters, shocks, fork seals, chain & sprockets, handlebars, grips, mirrors, tires, top end gaskets. Valves just adjusted, carbs syncd . Painted flat black (was a terrible purple color). Clean title, approx 10k miles on odometer. Needs new carbs - tried to get these to work and one carb won't stop leaking fuel. Tried everything I can and it still drips. It has a non-removable float seat that is the issue. New carbs can be found on Ebay sometimes and can be bought new, but are expensive and I don't want to devote anymore time to this project. A little searching and installing some new carbs and it'd be a great bike!

Feel free to email or call Dave @ 253-341-3251.

Craigslist | 1979 Kawasaki kz650

KZ650 C
Roughly 25,000 miles
Have title
Serious Inquiries only

This bike is slick. It's forgiving enough for the newbie, but fast (and light) enough for the experienced. I've owned it for almost 2 years and ridden it at least once per week. I started to convert it to a cafe racer, but have been pretty happy with the look that I got it to - so just left it alone. Has enough upgrades to put it around an 800cc, or so I've been told. I just know it's fun. Bike has been well maintained and garage kept and I am selling it basically because I have to.

What It Has:

25,000 miles
New Electronic ignition system
K&N Air filters
Kerker exhaust
New clutch cable
New front brake pads
Fresh brake fluid
New chain
Newish tires (4,000 miles on them)
New spark plugs
145-150 psi/compression on all 4 cylinders
Spare parts, original blue tail, etc.

Problems/Issues

-Cylinder 1 leaks oil through the gasket, although it doesn't affect the ride or the compression. It's just annoying.
-Tachometer doesn't work. I ride by ear/feel, so this never really bothered me enough to fix it.

Asking: $1800 obo

Alt Vs. Pro

More brands are picking recreational athletes for their marketing gameplay

It used to be that you needed to play in the NBA, NHL or any nationalized sport to get your face on the proverbial box of Wheaties. That may be starting to change, however, as more brands are wisening up to the fact that not everyone saw the appeal of being screamed at by their high school coach, and thus never forged a connection with traditional sports. Consequently, more brands are looking to broaden their audiences, reaching out to sports “outsiders” by sponsoring niche athletic lifestyles.
Hurley Cycle Zombies: Southern Californian brothers Turkey and Scotty Stopnik grew up homeschooled by a dad who replaced shop class with motorcycle mechanics and P.E. with surfing. Though the brothers grew up cruising on bikes, they still found plenty of time to surf and skate for fun. Bridging the gap between the motorcycle and board sport worlds – as many young men of their generation are currently doing – they started calling themselves Cycle Zombies. Following Gen Y protocol, they started a blog to share bikes they’re fixing up and selling, to promote parties they’re throwing, and to connect with other would-be Cycle Zombies all over the world. That’s when Hurley found the brothers and stepped in to sponsor their lifestyle. The action sports clothing brand pays the bills, only asking that the Zombies wear some gear and keep doing what makes them happy without any regard for PR or mass marketability. Hurley’s sponsorship of the Stopniks introduces a unique focus on enjoying board sports for sheer pleasure rather than on winning competitions: something to which the majority of skaters and surfers can relate.

A little bit Jealous of the Cycle Zombies life, yup! Thank goodness my life is pretty awesome, so I cant complain, although I would love to surf every morning.
